4-H rabbit show-- Four major purples for Hailey Meitner

The top breeding rabbit at last week's county fair was brought by Hailey Meitner.

Ditto for the reserve breeding rabbit.

Ditto for the champion market pen of three rabbits.

Ditto for champion individual market rabbit.

Whew. And Hailey is just in her second 4-H county fair contest. She'll have six additional years before her tenure in the 4-H competition is over.

Hailey and her mother Barb attend several open rabbit shows around Iowa during the year.

Hailey was pleased with the wins, but took it all in stride, even seeming a bit bored with the interviews that followed. You see, she's done all this before.

She follows her older brother Brandon who had annual success in showing rabbits at the Mitchell County 4-H show.

I just like working with rabbits," Hailey said. "They're small."

And far more fun to hold, she added, than the sheep and swine she brought for Friday's and Saturday's shows.

Hailey won the junior sheep showmanship ribbon on Friday and entered a lamb that was in the top five for rate of gain.

She also had two projects selected for state fair, one in personal development and the other in food and nutrition.
