Middle School singers selected to Opus Honor Choir

Four Osage Middle School students were recently informed that they had been selected to the OPUS Honor Choir. Seventh grader Madeline Miller, daughter of Matt and Kelli Miller and eighth graders Cortney Perrin, daughter of Brian and Heidi Perrin, Ben Schwarting, son of Steve and Kari Schwarting and Sawyer Small, son of Bruce and Becky Small were selected to participate in the 22nd annual OPUS Honor Choir Festival.

OPUS is a state-wide honor choir for 5th through 9th grade students and is under the auspices of the Iowa Choral Directors Association. Students audition via taped recordings they submit. They must sing specified portions of two pieces. This year over 3200 tapes were submitted. From these tapes, singers are selected as members of four choirs, 5-6th grade mixed choir, 7-8th grade girls choir, 7-8th grade boys choir and mixed 9th grade choir.

Being selected for OPUS is the highest state honor a young singer can receive. The OPUS choirs performed their concert at the C. Y. Stephens Auditorium on the Iowa State campus in Ames on Thursday, November 15.
