Sculpture opens in Osage

OSAGE - The love of a small town and wanting to offer a unique fashion business has resulted in a new shop just off Main Street.

Sculpture, a hair styling and clothing shop, owned by Erika Gentz, is open at 113 N. 6th St., just across the street from the Mitchell County Press-News.

Gentz has over 20 years of experience in hair styling. She was a partner in The Salon of Mason City for many years and has also received training at the Vidal Sassoon Academy and has taught hair styling courses. She has been chosen to provide styling artistry at regional trade shows.

Gentz and her husband, Brad, are from small towns in North Iowa and found Osage to be exactly the kind of town they enjoyed. After spending several years working in Mason City, Gentz said she wanted to be nearer to three active daughters.

"And, I really, really enjoy Osage," she said, adding her shop is another alternative for customers.

"I believe more options benefit everyone," Gentz added.

The salon offers a full line of styling, including cuts, colors, permanents, manicures and waxing. Men and women of all ages are customers.

Libby Taets of Osage is also a stylist with Sculpture. Taets is a graduate of LaJames International College. She is the daughter of Mark and Janet Taets of Osage and a 2005 graduate of Osage High School. She has three years of styling experience.

Her color products, which are from Italy, have low ammonia and are gentle on hair, she said. The shop carries Brocato, Redken and Bed Head products.

In the front end of the business is a line of clothing and accessories that Gentz calls "California style," a mix of casual and dressier styling. The items are provided by the Unique Boutique of Clear Lake and proprietor Jackie Peterson.

"I've always thought the clothing and styling would tie together nicely - and people are really showing an interest," she said.

"I see many clients from outside Osage who are just amazed at what we have here," said Gentz. "I believe our shop gives customers one more stopping point; a place with a bit of different flavor."

Sculpture is open at 9 a.m. Monday through Saturday and in evenings by appointment. Her phone number is 641-732-5510.
