RRMR, Crestwood down Riceville girls; Wildcats win by one run over Northwood

The RRMR Warriors slapped out six hits in defeating the Riceville Wildcats 9-0 in a road Corn Bowl contest played on Monday, May 19. RRMR pitchers limited Riceville to just two hits in the victory.

Madi Linkenmeyer went the distance for the Wildcats, giving up nine runs on six hits, striking out eight and walking five.

"We struggled getting good contact on the ball," said Coach Paula Kelley."We let down in the 7th inning defensively."

The Riceville wildcats fell 9-3 to visiting Crestwood on May 20. The Cadets scored their six runs on nine hits. They jumped to 5-0 after two innings and never looked back.

Madi Linkenmeyer went the distance on the mound for the Wildcats, giving up six runs on nine hits, striking out five and walking three.

Brooke Foster had two hits and one RBI for the Wildcats.

"The Crestwood pitcher did an excellent job of moving the ball around on us," said Kelley. "We will continue getting better when we find our strike zone and swing at better pitches."

It wasn't easy, but the Riceville Wildcats finally hit the victory board by defeating visiting Northwood-Kensett 9-8 on May 21. Marissa Yorgey drove home Brooke Foster in the bottom of the 7th inning with the winning run.

Madi Linkenmeyer went the distance for Riceville giving up eight runs on five hits, striking out 12 and walking six.

Riceville had nine runs on seven hits. Foster led the team with two hits and two RBIs, while Cambria Berentsen added a hit and two RBIs. Yorgey also contributed two RBIs for the Wildcats.

"The bats came around this game," said Kelley. "We really focused on a smaller strike zone and hit what we liked. This was an all-around team win. Many players came up with key hits or plays."
