St. Ansgar boys swing strong bats in three wins

The St. Ansgar Saints had the bats booming in a June 3 doubleheader sweep versus Forest City and a Corn Bowl Conference win against Northwood. The team banged out 18 hits and 32 runs versus Forest City and followed that performance up with eight hits and 18 runs against Northwood-Kensett on June 4.

Below are the week's results:

Tuesday, June 3 at St. Ansgar St. Ansgar 16 Forest City 4, St. Ansgar 16 Forest City 1

The bats were booming for the St. Ansgar Saints when they hosted the Forest City Indians in a June 3 doubleheader.

The Saints banged out 18 hits and scored 32 runs in the doubleheader sweep.

Joe Flury led the team in the opener, knocking in four runs on three hits. Clay Eustice and Logan Cimmiyotti added two hits each. Jared Underriner and Eustice chipped in with two RBIs for St. Ansgar.

Underriner went the first four innings for the Saints, giving up four runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three. Cimmiyotti mopped up, pitching one inning, allowing no runs and striking out one.

In game two, Cimmiyotti went the distance on the mound for St. Ansgar. He gave up one run on three hits, striking out six and walking one.

Kyle Moses provided the offensive punch for the Saints. He had a grand slam home run and a triple and five RBIs. Mike Saaranen added a double for St. Ansgar.

Wednesday, June 4 at St. Ansgar - St.Ansgar 18 Northwood-Kensett 6

Dallas Hendrikson went five strong innings on the mound in a June 4 18-6 home victory over the Northwood-Kensett Vikings.

Hendrikson gave up five hits in his four innings of action, striking out six and walking five. Dillon Follmuth struck out one and walked two in an inning of work.

The Saints scored 11 runs in the third inning to break open the Corn Bowl contest.

Mike Saaranen had three hits each to lead the eight-hit St. attack. Hendrikson added two and Eustice, Underriner and Moses added one hit each. Saaranen paced the team with four RBIs and Eustice and Hendrikson added two each.

Friday, June 6 at Sheffield - SCMT/RS 7 St. Ansgar 4

The home SCMT/RS squad defeated St. Ansgar 7-4 in a key Corn Bowl Conference game on June 6. SCMT/RS struck for four first inning runs and added two more runs in the sixth to pad their lead.

Kyle Moses went the distance on the mound for the Saints, allowing seven runs on 10 hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Cimmiyotti led the Saints at the plate, collecting three hits, Moses added two hits and Eustice, Underriner, Hendrikson and Flury each added one. Moses paced the team in RBIs with two.

Saturday, June 7 at St. Ansgar - Charles City 11 St. Ansgar 4

3-A Charles City defeated St. Ansgar on June 7 by a score of 11-4 in a game played at St. Ansgar.

Charles City used a four run third inning and a five run sixth inning to gain the win.

Dillon Follmuth started on the mound for St. Ansgar, going four innings. He gave up two runs on three hits, striking out one. Reid Hannam pitched the last three innings for the Saints, giving up nine runs on 11 hits, striking out three and walking three.

Hendrikson led St.Ansgar at the plate with two hits and an RBI. Moses cracked a home run for the Saints and also added an RBI. Eustice, Hannam and Follmuth also collected hits.

St. Ansgar had games with RRMR (Monday, June 2) and Garner (Saturday, June 7) rained out.

The Saints now stand 10-6 overall and 2-1 in Corn Bowl Conference play.
