Riceville boys 2-2 for the week, prepare for 1A tournaments

The Riceville Wildcats went 2-2 the week of June 30, defeating RRMR 4-2 on June 30 and Northwood-Kensett 10-9 on July 2. The Wildcats fell to Central Springs 11-1 on July 1 and SCMT/RS 8-2 on July 3. Riceville completed their regular season and now face RRMR in first round 1-A action at Newman on July 8.

Monday, June 30 at Riceville - Riceville 4 RRMR 2

The Riceville Wildcats tuned up for their first round district game on Tuesday, July 8 by defeating the RRMR Warriors 4-2 at Riceville on June 30. RRMR and Riceville meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8 at Newman in first round district 1-A action.

Jared Foss went the first five innings for the Wildcats, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three. Dylan Mayer pitched the last two innings and picked up the win. Mayer allowed no runs on one hit, striking out one and walking one.

Chris Anderson, Pat Nath and Wes Dohlman led the Wildcats offensively with two hits each. Casey Anderlik collected a home run and two RBIs.

"This was a well played game by both teams," said Coach Bryce Conway. "Both teams made some great plays to get out of jams with runners in scoring position. We scattered hits and found a way to win a tight ball game. Jared and Dylan both did nice jobs on the mound."

Tuesday, July 1 at Manly - Central Springs 11 Riceville 1 (six innings)

Riceville traveled to Central Springs for a Corn Bowl Conference game on Tuesday, July 1. The Panthers defeated the Wildcats 11-1 in a six-inning contest.

Brian Brandau went 5 2/3 innings for Riceville, giving up 11 runs on 10 hits, striking out three and walking four. Matt Foster finished up for Riceville, tossing 1/3 of an inning.

The Wildcats garnered six hits in the contest. Foss led the team with two hits, while Chaz Krueger, Jordan Kraft, Brian Brandau and Pat Nath collected one hit each.

"We gave away the first two innings, but after that Brian pitched well and our defense was okay," said Conway. "Central Springs is a nice ball club and has improved since the last time we played them."

Wednesday, July 2 at Riceville-

Riceville 10 Northwood-Kensett 9

The Riceville Wildcats rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the visiting N-K Vikings in a July 2 Corn Bowl Conference contest.

"It was a great come-from-behind win," said Conway. "It was our senior's last home game. Dylan did a nice job on the mound, especially picking off N-K runners in crucial situations. Our defense did a nice job and we got key hits from Jared Foss and Chaz Krueger to win the game."

Dylan Mayer went the distance on the mound for the Wildcats, giving up nine runs on 13 hits, striking out two and walking six.

Foss led an 11-hit Wildcat attack with three hits. Krueger and Anderson added two hits each, while Nath and Brandau had one hit each. Brandau had a home run and four RBIs to lead the Wildcats in that department.

Thursday, July 3 at Sheffield - SCMT/RS 8 Riceville 2

Conference leader SCMT/RS defeated Riceville 8-2 in a July 3 home Corn Bowl Conference contest.

Jared Foss went four innings for the Wildcats before being relieved by Casey Anderlik in the fifth. Anderlik struck out one and walked one in two innings of work.

Chris Anderson homered for the Wildcats with Patrick Nath led the team with two hits.

Riceville ended the regular season with a 13-14 record overall and an 8-6 record in Corn Bowl Conference play.
