Grafton boy winning his battle; receives special gift
Eleven-year old Connor Gordon of Grafton was the subject of a March 18, 2008 article in the Mitchell County Press News.
Connor, the son of Dan and Char Gordon, was diagnosed in January 2008 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He faced a long and difficult struggle at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota in an attempt to overcome the leukemia and get it into a state of long-term remission.
Connor's goal was to get better and get back to school with his friends in the fall of 2008.
Well, according to Connor's mom Char, things have gone well for Connor. He has returned home and has also returned to school with his classmates this month.
"Connor spent from January 28 until August 13 undergoing chemotherapy and other treatment and testing," said Char. "He was recently given a clean bill of health by the doctors. His last three bone marrow tests indicate the leukemia is in remission. We have another test scheduled in 2-4 weeks."
Char stated that the family will monitor Connor in school to make sure he adapts well and doesn't tire out too quickly.
"Other than that, he is a normal, healthy young man," said Char.
Conner received quite a pleasant surprise on August 19. A group called "Wishes and More" that grants wishes to children who are fighting a terminal or life threatening illness, granted Connor a very large wish.
Connor, who loves fishing and being on the water, was given his very own pontoon by the organization.
Connor was presented the pontoon at Cabella's in Owatonna, Minnesota in a 3 p.m. ceremony.
Connor, who did extensive research on the type of pontoon he wanted, appropriately named the pontoon "Faith".
" Our family cannot to begin to thank everyone for everything they've done for us," said Char. "Connor has beaten the odds . He is convinced the leukemia will remain in remission. I tell anyone who asks about Connor to keep praying for Connor and our family."
