North Iowa Tillage Field Day set near St. Ansgar

A North Iowa Tillage Field Day will take place on September 24 at the Jorgensen farm approximately one mile south of St. Ansgar on county road T-26. The Mitchell County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), in cooperation with Mitchell County ISU Extension and Mitchell County Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) are sponsoring the event. Registrations will begin at 9 a.m. with rolls and coffee provided by the Mitchell SWCD and lunch will be provided at noon.

Speakers on strip-till, government programs and payments, and nutrient application will follow. A free meal will be provided for lunch. There will be a panel of local Mitchell County farmers who are already implementing no-till and/or strip-till. Dr. Matt Helmers will also be on site with a rainfall simulator, provided by the Iowa Learning Farm. Throughout the day, tillage implement dealerships from throughout the area will be exhibiting their equipment. During the afternoon, tillage equipment will be field demonstrated.

Pre-registration is requested to the Mitchell County SWCD at (641) 732-5504 by September 19. For additional questions on the event, please contact Dan or Beth at the SWCD office. A rain date of October 1, 2008 has been chosen in the chance that inclement weather or other circumstances occur.
