Osage cross country keeps up winning pace
The Osage cross country teams were in action twice the week of September 29. The teams were at the Garner-Hayfield Invitational on September 29. The boys squad finished second to Garner-Hayfield and the girls team finished third.
On October 2, the teams were in action at the Hampton-Dumont Invite. The Osage boys again placed second to Garner-Hayfield, while the girls again placed third.
The Garner-Hayfield course is well-known for being a flat and fast course," said Boys coach Bill Gruman. "It was unusual though to have nearly everyone on the boys team set personal bests. Most remarkable probably were Brett Castek for leading the race start to finish in a time of 16:42 and Marcus Christiansen for finishing in 8th place in 17:36, nearly a minute better than his previous best."
Gruman continued, "The team, overall, has showed impressive growth in the last couple of weeks. We didn't back off much in pre-meet workouts in the first few weeks and it is paying off with big improvements here in the second half of the season."
Regarding the Hampton Invite on October 2, Gruman stated, "This was probably our strongest team performances of the season so far. The guys finished in second place, only 7 points behind Garner, the closest we've come in 4 meetings with them. It gives the guys a lot of confidence leading up to the conference meet in a couple of weeks."
